What Are The Different Types of NFTs?
NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are unique digital assets that are stored on the blockchain. Each NFT represents a one-of-a-kind item, whether it’s a piece of art, a collectible, a game item, or some other unique digital asset.
Here are some of the different types of NFTs you’ll come across as you continue to explore web3.
Art NFTs: These are NFTs that represent digital artwork, such as paintings, illustrations, or 3D sculptures. The value of these NFTs is often based on the popularity and perceived artistic value of the artwork they represent.
Collectible NFTs: These are NFTs that represent unique digital items that are meant to be collected, such as trading cards or rare in-game items. The value of these NFTs is often based on their rarity and desirability to collectors.
Virtual real estate NFTs: These are NFTs that represent ownership of virtual land or property in a digital world, such as in a blockchain-based game or virtual reality platform.
Utility NFTs: These are NFTs that have a specific utility or purpose, such as access to a specific feature in a game, subscription to a service, or membership to a club.
Event tickets NFTs: These are NFTs that represent admission to a specific event, such as a concert or a sports game. These NFTs can be used to verify ownership and grant access to the event.
Each type of NFT has its own unique characteristics and potential uses. Our Crypto Witch Club Card is a dynamic membership NFT that grants holders access to token-gated community rooms, office hours, and web3 challenges. As holders grow in web3, complete quizzes + games, and become Crypto Witches, they get dropped stickers to their card to highlight their newfound skillset. The stickers are the dynamic element, so the NFT can shift and change over time — it’s not static! You can join the community and get involved here.
As the world of web3 continues to grow and evolve, we’re likely to see many more types of NFTs emerge — such as NFTs that hold our medical records, real estate records, and more. Here are some NFT projects that we’re obsessed with right now.
Latasha
Meet Latasha: a Brooklyn-based musical artist and co-founder of Zoratopia — where the new internet + the culture link up. She’s minting music and multimedia videos on the blockchain — like Platter — available now. Her work is also currently available at Southby’s, in support of Planned Parenthood in the form of a music video “MY BODY, MY BUSINESS”. (Also avaialable in the lot are pieces by Pussy Riot, Michele Pred, the incredible Marina Abramovic, and more contemporary artists.) She spoke with Coindesk last year on her blockchain journey, noting“The thing that caught my eye the most about music and NFTs was the agency that it gave back to artists. I have been trying to stay away from labels for years, because independence was my goal. And I’ve also just seen a lot of label deals be terrible. When I got into music and NFTs I realized, oh, I can have full agency and full authority of all my choices and what I’m getting paid for. So, platforms like Zora, like Catalog, I’m even looking into sound.xyz right now.” We’re so excited to see how she continues to trail-blaze in the web3 space. Mavion
Michelle Reeves — founder of Mavion — is bridging the gap between fashion and tech. Referred to by the Mavion team as ‘NFTs with Benefits’, each Mavion NFT comes with a physical, limited edition accessory featured in the artwork that’s sent to the holder that mints the original NFT. Holders also receive augmented reality filters of their accessory that they can utilize across social channels like Instagram and TikTok. Even better? If the accessory featured in the Mavion NFT you own is later used for a commmerical, metaverse, or gaming collaboration, the holder will receive royalty rates from each unit sold. (Nice touch!)
Each Mavion NFT features over 200 hand drawn features by illustrator and fashion designer Dayoung Kim. To learn more about Mavion, follow the team on Instagram and Twitter.
Women Rise
Women Rise is one of the most notable PFP (profile pic) NFT projects that has emerged over the last several years. Founded by Pakistani-American multidisciplinary artist, Maliha Abidi — who also illustrated the project — Women Rise is a collection of 10,000 unique images featuring representations of women activists, artists, scientist, coders, astronauts and more that are rising on the blockchain. It also has a major focus on female-driven impact — already donating over $130,000 to Pad Project, Girl Effect, SOL Afghanistan and Malala Fund since launch.
In addition to Women Rise’s ongoing donations to causes that benefits women, Women Rise supports girl’s education and women’s rights in the web3 space and beyond through:
The launch of Qissa, an new storytelling platform embracing and amplifying diverse voices of women and girls from around the world
An ongoing partnership with CAMFED — the Campaign for Female Education — featuring voices of young women who are leaders of change in their communities
A partnership with Voice HQ to launch an art residency aimed at supporting female creators from underrepresented communities — including a stipend of $1,500 for each resident, mentorship, and artwork promotion by Voice HQ
Monaverse
Mona is on a mission to empower people around the world to create, collect, and share immersive experiences on the blockchain. Imagine a ‘world-building platform’ where users and creatives can design, develop, launch, and sell collectible spaces in the metaverse. You can design your own space, or mint one that’s already been built by a creator. Each space starts as a single player, and from there you can create interactive experiences, token-gate your space, showcase your other digital collectibles within your new enviroment, and even create your own VRM avatar.
